Churchill was born into a wealthy British family and when young, became an officer. In 1925 he was Secretary of State for War and later more important positions. In the 1930's he tried and succeeded to keep India under British Rule. In 1940 he was named Prime Minister of Britain, Canada, India and other parts of the British Empire. He also led a victory over Adolf Hitler. In 1945 he lost the election to a rival and on August 15th, 1947 India gained independence from Britain which was bad news for Churchill and Queen Elizabeth II. In 1951 he was renamed Prime Minister of the smaller British Empire(still including Canada) until 1955 where he had many political affairs. He was a member of Parliament until 1964 and he died in 1965. Queen Elizabeth II honored him with an expensive funeral and Canadians honor him with a 33.8 kilometer street named after him called Winston Churchill Boulevard.
