The West Coast Express is a Commuter Rail Transport service in Metro Vancouver. It is operated by Canadian Pacific Railway, and owned by TransLink, and it runs on CPR Tracks. It connects the cities of Mission, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, and Port Moody with Downtown Vancouver at Waterfront Station.

The line began operation on November 1, 1995.

Route DetailsEdit

The West Coast Express runs along the CPR tracks from Mission to Vancouver along a 69km route. The entire trip (one way) takes approximately 1 hour, 13 minutes, not including station breaks.

The route begins in Mission, at Mission City Station. It runs northwest along the north shore of the Fraser River, roughly parallel to the Lougheed Highway, to Port Haney Station in Maple Ridge. Further west in Maple Ridge, the train reaches Maple Meadows Station, which is located on Golden Ears Way, just north of the Golden Ears Bridge. From here, it goes northwest to Pitt Meadows Station in Pitt Meadows. It then continues northwest, and crosses the Pitt River (beside the Pitt River Bridge) into Port Coquitlam. After crossing over the Mary Hill Bypass, it enters the train yard, passes underneath the Coast Meridian Overpass, and reaches Port Coquitlam Station. From here, it goes northwest more to Coquitlam Central Station in Coquitlam. The train has a connection with SkyTrain's Evergreen Extension at this station.

From Coquitlam Central, the West Coast Express goes northwest, passing under the Barnet Highway to Port Moody Station in Port Moody. This station also has a connection to the Evergreen Extension, at Moody Central Station. From here, the train follows the southern shore of Burrard Inlet beneath the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing to its terminus at Waterfront Station in Vancouver. Here, the West Coast Express connects with SkyTrain's Expo, Millennium, and Canada Lines, as well as the SeaBus (Which crosses the Burrard Inlet to North Vancouver).

Trains and Buses Edit

The West Coast Express is run mostly with motive-power locomotives with bi-level coaches, however, some trips are run by the WCE TrainBus. TrainBus is a bus service that covers the entire WCE route. In December 2016, TrainBus was replaced by an extension of some of route 701's trips to Mission City Station from Coquitlam Central Station.
