Ontario Highway 401(MacDonald Cartier Freeway) stretches 870 kilometers from Windsor, Ontario near Detroit to the border between Ontario and Quebec. The part of the Freeway that bypasses Toronto, Ontario is it's most traffic congested part as Toronto is the largest city in Canada by population. Throughout it's length travelers along the freeway can travel up to 100 km/hr.

The MacDonald Cartier Freeway extends across Ontario. In Windsor after travelers from Chicago and Detroit enter Canada they cross on the freeway if they wish to go to Toronto, Ontario or Montreal, Quebec. Until London, Ontario the freeway passes mostly farmland. In London the freeway intersects ON-402 before heading 166 kilometers into Toronto. From Toronto it heads east into Kingston, Ontario before the Ontario-Quebec border. Travelers usually go to Montreal but some take a different highway into Ottawa.
