Lake Ontario is the smallest, in area, of the Great Lakes. The city of Toronto is situated on the northern shore. The Niagara River in the primary inlet and the St. Lawrence River is the primary outlet. The Huron translation of the word Ontario means "great lake". It is surrounded by the province in Canada known as Ontario to it's north and southwest. It has Toronto, Ontario and Kingston, Ontario located off of the lake with Rochester, U.S nearby.
